With the season now fast approaching, we’re inundated with entries for the five best football shirts released this week. But here we are, committed to the number five and steadfastly refusing to make it ten. After all, we can always roll some of these into next week’s list, right? Right?
We had a strong list last week but, truthfully, this week’s releases were in another league. All killer, no filler. So sit back, relax, and let us help you decide where you should spend your money this week.
5. Genoa - 2026/27 - Home Shirt
This shirt could actually have been higher up the list, but we suspect Genoa have tried to slip one past the goalkeeper here.
They’ve marketed the shirt online without the sponsor which, of course, looks sensational. But the club shop only sells the sponsored version (unless you’re buying a child’s shirt). It’s a little bit of deception that generates plenty of initial buzz when the shirt is released, followed by a touch of disappointment at the checkout.
Truthfully, it’s still a blinding shirt. But it’s not quite what we thought it was going to be.
4. Venezia - 2026/27 - Home Shirt
Most seasons, Venezia are in the running for the 'shirt of the season'. In fact, most seasons they win it. Which goes to show the strength of this week's list.
Produced again by Nocta, this shirt is released as the club celebrate their return to Serie A. Featuring a predominantly black base, the shirt showcases a distinctive horizontal orange and green stripe across the chest, complemented by matching trim on the polo collar and sleeve cuffs. A subtle, tonal pattern is integrated into the black fabric, incorporating "Venezia Football Club" lettering.
If you're lucky enough to be able to grab a long sleeved version, make sure you buy it. These do not go down in value.
3. Sevilla - 2026/27 - Away Shirt
Good grief. This is special. Most other weeks, this would be number one.
Adidas and Sevilla are still finding their feet as a partnership. They’d actually never worked together before the 2025/26 season. Last season’s shirts weren’t particularly great and, in truth, neither is this season’s home shirt. But Adidas have done something different with the away shirt. They’ve gone retro rather than modern. Out goes the contemporary Adidas logo, in comes the Trefoil.
It’s the sort of shirt we suspect people from all over the world will buy, not just Sevilla supporters. It’s got huge collectible potential too.
2. Sampdoria - 2026/27 - Home Shirt
For many shirt collectors we speak to, no club has produced more brilliant shirts than Sampdoria. While we don’t quite subscribe to that theory, they have undoubtedly made several Hall of Fame shirts, and a new Sampdoria release is still something to get excited about. This year’s effort has certainly not disappointed.
It’s a shirt that matches some of their early-2000s and mid-90s kits almost to the letter. A future classic? That’s hard to say with certainty. Usually, those shirts have a greater degree of originality. But it’s a beautiful nod to the past that would look great in any wardrobe.
1. Grimsby - 2026/27 - Away Shirt
Here we have it. A bolt from the blue and a genuine 'shirt of the season' contender. Lotto have started their new partnership with Grimsby with a bang.
During the mid-1990s, Italian giants AC Milan wore an almost identical Lotto template, with legendary names including Roberto Baggio, George Weah, Patrick Vieira and Paolo Maldini all sporting the same distinctive design. The same template was also used by Grimsby Town during the 1996/97 season. Three decades later, it returns to Blundell Park.
Confused about these clubs being ‘twinned’? Well, so were we. But it turns out the iconic Grimsby Dock Tower, standing proudly over the docks since 1852, was inspired by Siena’s Torre del Mangia, one of Italy’s most recognisable medieval towers.
There’s so much to like about this. It bears all the hallmarks of a future classic and also asks one slightly confusing question: why was the photoshoot done in Naples?!
