This week, we’re running down five new football shirts that caught our eye and that we think might be worth adding to your collections. Will they be future classics and go up in value? That’s hard to say. Will they make you look half-decent on the five-a-side pitch this summer? We think so. As long as your touch doesn’t let you down, that is. So, here you go. The five best football shirts released this week, according to Showboat. Strap in.
5. Cambridge United - 2026/27 - Third Shirt
You might not follow League One football, but we’re here to tell you: Cambridge United consistently drop some of the best kits at this level. Always creative and always really well made.
After a wobbly spell of letting the sponsor dictate colours to them, they now incorporate sponsors in a more holistic way. It means that, for the last three years, they’ve released some belters. It’s no coincidence they’ve all been made by Umbro, either.
We like this all-pink third shirt quite a lot, but the home and away shirts are also worth checking out. Good work all round.
4. TSG Hoffenheim - 2026/27 - Home Shirt
Hoffenheim, like many clubs on the continent, have bounced around from manufacturer to manufacturer over the past few decades. Erima, Adidas, Nike, Puma, Lotto, Joma, you name it. So, it’s no surprise to see them on the move again this summer but, surprisingly, they look to have landed on their feet with Macron.
The real story with this shirt is in the details. The embossed pattern, inspired by stag antlers from Hoffenheim’s historic coat of arms, is given room to breathe but doesn’t dominate the shirt. It connects the Bundesliga club to its village roots and hits the sweet spot between heritage and innovation. The iconic SAP sponsor catches the eye but is incorporated tastefully. It’s a shirt we like.
3. Sheffield Wednesday - 2026/27 - Home Shirt
Sheffield Wednesday fans have had a brutal few years, so a change in ownership has got them feeling as though they have their club back. This shirt does nothing to dampen their glee.
It’s an absolute beauty and Umbro’s second entry on our list this week. It’s the first time Wednesday have had Umbro as their kit manufacturer since the 1992/93 season, though this shirt actually nods to the Umbro shirts of the 80s, specifically the 1985/86 season.
The collar is a modern take on a traditional design. Of course, like many modern shirts, the sponsor will take a little getting used to. But for us, this is easily one of the five best football shirts released this week, and there’s a good case to be made for it being even higher on our list.
2. Bologna - 2026/27 - Away Shirt
Now, this is one clean football shirt and another entry from Macron this week. Again, the sponsor is incorporated into the shirt rather than plastered on it. And it’s amazing how good a sponsor can look when you don’t understand what they’re flogging. A dodgy loan shark is one thing when it’s crudely written in English. When it’s in Italian, we couldn’t care less [note: Saputo make cheese and do not, in fact, offer payday loans].
Anyway, it’s a blinding shirt from Bologna for the third season in a row. Though we can’t guarantee you’ll look as good as this Italian pair when wearing it.
1. Portofino FC - 2026/27 - Special Edition
Now, Portofino FC are not quite the next Como. They’re playing in the ninth tier of Italian football, so it’s likely that a few members of the Showboat team could get a game for them. The copywriter certainly could.
They obviously have a greater degree of creative flexibility than some major clubs, which are inhibited by tradition and lots of other external factors. But still, Portofino and their kit manufacturer, Ezeta, have swung for the fences and hit this one out of the park.
Inspired by the colours of the Piazzetta, the reflections of the sea and the light of the Italian Riviera, it’s a glowing tribute to one of the most iconic places associated with the Italian dolce vita. It looks like a postcard you can wear. Or leave on display for everyone to see. Either way, we very much approve.
