The model remained recognisably Parma: controlled defending, quick release into the channels and wide men asked to work without the ball. The side’s physical profile—pace at full-back, power at centre-half and legs in midfield—kept matches on Parma’s terms.

A flash of audacity wherever he played, Asprilla operated between the lines, drawing markers out and sliding passes into runners. The step-over, outside-of-the-boot clips and sudden acceleration remained his trademarks; when introduced, he changed the rhythm of games and gave Parma an unorthodox angle of attack that opponents struggled to read.
