In 1997–98, Youri Djorkaeff made 38 appearances for Inter and scored 8 goals, with 29 Serie A matches and 8 league goals plus 9 UEFA Cup appearances as Luigi Simoni’s side finished 2nd in Serie A and won the UEFA Cup. Wearing No. 6, Djorkaeff played as an attacking midfielder or support forward alongside a star-studded Inter side led by Ronaldo, and he remained an important creative presence in one of the club’s strongest seasons of the decade. By that point he had already won the 1995–96 UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup with Paris Saint-Germain, and the 1997–98 campaign was followed by his place in France’s 1998 World Cup-winning squad.
