As we approach 5,000 shirts uploade to the Showboat app, we pick five more of our favourites from a very busy summer.
Inter Milan (Home Jersey) - 1997/98
One of the most quietly iconic shirts of the 90s has been uploaded to Showboat countless times this summer. It's inextricably tied to R9 and the breathtaking moments he gave the world when wearing it. It was also the shirt first worn by Alvaro Recoba when he made his unforgettable Serie A debut. The shirt itself was similar to the season previous, still featuring the legendary Pirelli sponsor so associated with Inter, with only the positioning of the Umbro branding changing from the centre of the shirt to the top right. We've flagged this particular shirt from all of the uploads because of the condition and also the way the collector presented it through their photography. Top marks all round.
Partick Thistle (Goalkeeper Jersey) - 1994
For us, this is what Showboat is all about: shirts you've never seen before, lovingly maintained and shared with the community. This one is listed in excellent condition and comes match-worn. Very little photographic or archive material exists on this one and there's probably only a handful in existence. If you can find this on the explore page within the Showboat app then dig a little deeper into the collector showcasing it - one of the very best on our platform.
Brighton & Hove Albion (Home Jersey) - 1983/84
As we see thousands of shirts added to the Showboat app each month there's a growing opinion amongst our staff that Brighton & Hove Albion can make a strong case for having the best shirts in the country. This one is an early 80s masterpiece, in our opinion. And due to the fact it was made in relatively small numbers, it's held its value very well. The nod to their FA Cup final run the season before is a lovely touch - somehow made all the more charming by the club finishing as runners up. The Phoenix Brewery sponsor is right up our street too. We value this around £325.
Shimizu S-Pulse (Home Jersey) - 1993/94
Ah, the J.League. It was only a matter of time wasn't it. We've been overwhelmed with collectors specialising in shirts from Japan uploading their treasures onto our app. Our current favourite is this rare home shirt from Shimizu S-Pulse in 1993. Manufactured by Mizuna and with a unique map of the world logo from Japan Airlines - it doesn't get more J.League than this. For a shirt that's over 30 years old this one is in meticulous condition and valued just north of £200.
Mexico (Training Sweatshirt) - 1992
Okay, okay. Not quite a football shirt and we know that's what the title of this article promised. However, sometimes you've just got to hold your hands up and say 'too good'. With the market absolutely booming for benchwear, we're keen to get as many authentic pieces within the app as possible. Our valuation team put a £350 price tag on this one and it's easy to see why. Super rare, early 90s, iconic national team, top tier manufacturer and tastefully designed. It really does tick every box.
