As we near 4,000 shirt uploads from collectors on Showboat, we thought it time to look on some our favourites to land on our app this summer.
Of course, given the standard of shirts appearing on Showboat, this list could have been substantially longer. So much so we're already planning parts two and three to follow this article. But here's five shirts that immediately caught our eye this summer. Some bonafide classics, some rare gems and some we'd not actually even seen before. Sit back and breathe in these glorious shirts, folks.
PSG (Home Jersey) - 1993-94
The only way this shirt could look any better was if it was worn by David Ginola himself. The shirt marked one of Nike's first forays into European football shirt design, led by the brilliant Drake Ramberg who went onto design classics for the likes of Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund. But for many collectors from that era, this was as good as it got. Bold, brash and brought to life by several iconic players who wore it. Our valuation team put a £350 estimate on this. We can only see that number rising over time.
Olympique Marseille (Away Jersey) - 1987-88
There are rare occasions when football shirts are added to Showboat that even we weren't aware existed. This French cracker every much falls into that category. Part football shirt, part ice hockey jersey - this Marseille away shirt is a true collectors item. The Adidas trefoil sets it off, the bright orange logo tips it over the edge. Our valuation team have put an estimated value of £500 on this one.
Boca Juniors (Home Jersey) - 1991-92
When a shirt as iconic as this drops on the app, you sit up and take notice. For us, this is about as good as it gets. Legendary manufactorer? Tick. Iconic sponsor? Tick. Classic crest? Tick. Colour combination? Tick. All that's missing here is Gabriel Batistuta wearing the thing. This was valued at a very reasonable £315 by our team, though that's probably because it's sized in a medium. Expect a large to fetch even more.
Denmark National Team (Home Jersey ) - 1986-87
Whilst there are shirts from 1986 that have gone on to become more iconic, Denmark's home shirt remains a bonafide collectors item. When paired with the away shirt of the same year it has a strong case for being the greatest one-two combo from any national team ever. We were thrilled to see this uploaded over the summer. The £425 valuation from our team feels on point for a genuine classic like this.
England National Team (Third Jersey) - 1990-92
They say memories are what make shirts great. This shirt has the nightmares to go with them. But, for many, the light blue third shirts England produced in the early 90s remain the high watermark of any shirts the country has produced in its histroy. This one has enduring appeal for both collectors and casuals, and is valued at £350.
